A Connecticut Engagement Session by Katie Slater Photography

We are such saps when it comes to engagement stories, and Arianne and Bennett’s instantly made us smile! Enjoy the sweet proposal and beautiful photos captured by Katie Slater Photography.

From the bride-to-be, Arianne,

Bennett and I had been together for a few years before I started dropping hints that I thought we should get married. Bennett’s response to my nagging would always be…”that is part of the ten year plan,” always followed with a grin. The Oceanhouse in Watchill, RI had a long standing history in Bennett’s family. I had the opprotunity to go there for Bennett’s father’s surprise 60th Birthday party and fell in love. It not only has amazing views of the water as you walk it’s wrap around porch, but the decor and feel is full of class and elegance. Not to mention amazing food, which Bennett and I love! So Bennett knew this place was special for him and I and planned to propose there. Little did I know last November, that when he told me we were going to the Oceanhouse for business (he even had his boss contact me to let me know he was running late), he was planning a night I will never forget. As I was finishing getting ready (and running late as usual), our favorite champagne got delivered. When I was finally ready, we raised a glass (toasting to his promotion for work). Bennett then said, “actually no one else is coming.” I was confused and didn’t know what to think. He followed quickly with, “your ten year plan is over.” I knew exactly what that meant and started crying and hugging him. He then goes “well can I get on one knee now?” He did, and then I cried some more! Some of Bennett’s humor and my sappiness.

A Connecticut State Park Wedding by Sarah Tew Photography

Our next lovely wedding comes to us from Sarah Tew Photography. This Connecticut state park is the perfect location for an east coast affair. Greenery + ocean = too good to be true, but that is the east coast for you. Enjoy the beautiful scenery, stunning decor, oh yes…and adorable couple.

From the photographer…

My thoughts on this wedding can be summed up in one word: wow! It is rare that we photographers get so much punch packed into one location– this park was gorgeous– it featured a mansion for the getting ready and cocktail/reception, a sweet little ampitheatre for the ceremony, and the options for portraits were almost overwhelming! To make things even better Jesse & Jessica had a super sweet wedding that involved almost no “outside” vendors– in other words, everyone involved with their wedding (except the venue/caterer) was someone they knew personally! Jesse’s brother Kerk played the music for their ceremony, and their DJ, Christopher Torres, was a friend. The cake was made by the bride’s Grandfather, and the invitations were designed by Jessica’s sister (and maid of honor) Laura. Even I was an old friend of Jesse’s from Wesleyan. To top it all off, Jesse arranged to serenade his bride during the reception with an Al Green cover with his brothers performing as his backup band. So you can imagine with this DIY spirit what a warm-feeling celebration it was. For centerpieces they just put a white orchid plant with pretty little handmade paper covers over the pots (lacy looking, awesome idea) on each table surrounded by some little sand dollars and glass pebbles. Very simple but pretty, and guests enjoyed taking an orchid home!
