A New York Covered Bridge Engagement by Jeff Foley Photography

Our next engagement session comes to us from Jeff Foley Photography. This couple, Kelly and Matt, got engaged in one of my favorite places, Lake George, NY. We love their inspiration for the session, their adorable love story (see below!), and the fact that Matt designed Kelly’s beautiful ring! Swoon!

Inspirations for the shoot, from the bride-to-be, Kelly…

Matt was very cute and had his heart set on our engagement pictures being taken at a covered bridge.  We are very fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful areas in the country with many breathtaking views.  We are both outdoors people; Matt a hunter/fisherman and I a skier, so being outdoors in a wooded location was a must.  Our wedding venue is in the Adirondacks at Point O’Pines in Brant Lake, NY, so we wanted to somehow continue that theme in our engagement shoot.  We took a drive through New York to our neighboring state, Vermont, stopping at several bridges along the way.  Although any one of these spots would have been amazing, Jeff suggested the one from the shoot and we are so happy he did.  It provided us with the covered bridge, a wooded scene, as well as a few old yet somehow beautiful buildings.

From the groom, Matt…

I proposed to Kelly on October 9, 2011. We enjoyed a beautiful night on a dinner cruise aboard the Lac du Saint Sacrement on Lake George, NY. While approaching the docks the boat stopped for a few minutes to enjoy fireworks over the bay, which was an unexpected surprise. It was around this time that Kelly nearly uncovered my plan when she tried to check one of my pockets for a lady bug ornament she had bought prior to getting on board. Luckily she didn’t discover the ring which was only inches from her hand. After the cruise we reminisced while having drinks at a bar near the water. As we were walking along the waterfront making our way back to the car after an amazing evening I suddenly stopped. I told her we needed to go back to the arcade which was near where we had just come from. She was confused since we hadn’t been there that night. I told her I had a token to cash in and I handed it to her. It was dark, so she turned away from me towards the street light looking at what I had handed her. She then realized that it was a small token she had given me when we first started dating 5 years earlier that said “Good For All My Love.” When she turned around I was down on one knee with the ring box open in my hand. I told Kelly that I was ready to cash in that token for all of her love for the rest of our lives and asked if she would marry me.
