North Carolina Picnic Engagement Session by Mollie Tobias

We, at East Coast Bride, are suckers for romance, and after just one glance at this engagement session by Mollie Tobias Photography, we could feel this couples love for one another. We love the cozy picnic setting and their creative use of props, but the proposal story at the bottom of the post was the icing on the cake. Be sure to read the story, written by the groom himself, about his romantic and spontaneous proposal!

From the groom

Through my last deployment to Afghanistan I spent quite a bit of my free time racking my brain on how I wanted to propose to Jenna. We are both from San Diego so we had planned a trip out there for when I got back. I figured that would be the best time to plan something big! I wanted to take her to the restaurant where we originally connected which just happened to be right on the beach where her family and friends could also be a part of the surprise. Well that’s not how things went….

Two days go by being back state side, and I am still have some trouble falling asleep due to the time change and the jet-lag. I woke up in the middle of the night at around 2:00 am wide awake because I still could not sleep. Jenna had work early in the morning so I got out of bed and went to the living room to watch some TV to try and occupy myself without waking Jenna up. Trying to be as quite as I could, I still managed to wake Jenna up. She came into the living room and asked me what I was doing, and I replied that I am still having some trouble falling asleep so I was just watching some TV. Jenna asked me to go back to bed with her and she said we can put the TV on in the bedroom and she would help me go back to sleep. We ended up talking for almost two hours in the middle of the night not even watching the TV. As Jenna was struggling to stay awake with me, it was then that it dawned on me how special this moment was. Here lays a woman who was awake with me in the middle of a work night struggling to stay awake to help me fall back to sleep. It was my struggles dealing with adjusting being back in the states that became Jenna’s struggles as any soul mate would do for another.

I got out of bed wearing nothing but running shorts and raced into the garage where I had put the ring and I, in a panic, shoved it down the back of my pants and crawled back into bed next to Jenna. I began to tell her bits and pieces of the story I am telling you now, and explained to her that she is my partner and my partner for life. She had no clue what I was doing, but she was intently listening to what I was saying. With a lump in my throat the size of an elephant I, YES, reached down the back of my pants and pulled out the ring and asked Jenna to be my wife. It was the most amazing thing I have ever felt, and with a face full of tears Jenna happily said yes!
