Classic Garden Wedding by Melissa Arlena Photography

It’s going to be difficult to believe that our next wedding falls into the real wedding category, because the details are that beautiful and the bride and groom both look like models, but believe it because it’s real. Captured by Melissa Arlena Photography, this Virginia garden wedding is just about as pretty as it gets.

About the affair…

While planning her wedding day, Rachel was inspired by the venue itself- from its distinct brick work to the romantic details throughout the property. For the bride, it was the idyllic setting for a classically Southern garden affair. As she tells us, “Our wedding colors - cobalt/sapphire blue and chartreuse/apple green with chocolate brown and ivory accents - were inspired by nature with a modern twist, and were repeated in all of the wedding details.” DIY details abound although Rachel will be the first to credit the personalized touches as purchases from her beloved Etsy- including the paper flower garland, guest book, chalkboard menu platters and the “Mr.” and “Mrs” chair back signs. Favorite wedding day details include the orchids (Rachel’s favorite!) featured throughout their bouquets and centerpieces, as well as the addition of a wine box ceremony, which they will open again on their 5th Wedding Anniversary. Guests were delighted by the personalized specialty cocktails- the “Painkiller” as a nod to Steve and Rachel’s trip to the Virginia Islands and the “Scotch of the hour,” which paid homage to Steve’s dad’s affection for good scotch. As for favorite wedding memories, Rachel fondly looks back on the quiet moment they had to themselves immediately following the ceremony, which allowed them to reflect on the day and celebrate that they were officially husband and wife. As for advice for future brides, Rachel tells us, “Start planning early, and don’t be afraid to ask for help! Also, make a promise to yourself and your future husband that once the wedding rehearsal rolls around, you will stop stressing over last-minute details and really make it a point to enjoy that night and your wedding day with the friends and family who have gathered to celebrate with you.”
