{DIY} Penguin Cake Toppers

In our previous post with Brandon and Katie’s wedding in Bethlehem, PA, we shared their absolutely adorable penguin cake toppers! We still can’t believe Katie made them herself so we just have to share how she made them.

And here it is, straight from Katie:

The cake toppers were made after A LOT of trial and error. I first tried covering plastic Easter eggs with model magic, but they eventually cracked. I tried styrofoam balls and shaved them to look like eggs, but they didn’t look right.
Then, I finally found a company (http://www.plasteelcorp.com/) that makes “smoothfoam” objects. They have a variety that are egg shaped.  I bought the 2 3/4″ by 4″ balls and painted them using acrylic paint. I made the beaks, feet, and shoes out of white model magic, painted them, and hot glued them to the penguins.  I used paper for the tie and parts of my parents’ cake topper for the bouquet and hot glued them onto the penguins.
How creative is that? Has anyone else made their own cake topper?
